Invitational Symposium on Curriculum Design for Informed Transformation: Creating a Great School for Every Student

Backgrounder:
This invitational symposium, held in early November 2011, was a two day intensive conversation with approximately 300 delegates, including Alberta teachers, students and parents, Alberta Education officials, Alberta Teachers’ Association officials, trustees, community representatives, and international scholars.

The symposium explored the curriculum design challenges and opportunities related to creating a great school for every student.

The symposium had three intended outcomes:

• Consider the international successes and challenges for curriculum design and development
• Help create a better understanding of the curriculum design challenges and opportunities for Alberta
• Consider and reflect on guiding principles for designing new provincial curricula
